CHALLENGE

CHALLENGE

  • OpenRouter already had an internal content agent that handled topic research, briefs, and first drafts.
  • An early review showed that some product information in those drafts had fallen behind the live product.
  • One draft listed OpenRouter at 2.5 million users when the verified figure had already passed 5 million, while another referenced a 5% markup that OpenRouter no longer charged.
  • Three of the five drafts we reviewed stated that OpenRouter lacked SOC 2 even though the company held a Type 2 report.
  • Technical tutorials also needed writers to verify API behavior, run the code, and check details such as pricing, model parameters, context limits, and endpoints.
  • OpenRouter needed a production process that could handle that work before articles reached its team for final product review.

Finding time to actually create it in a way that isn’t pure AI-slop. AI works great for scale but still has major quality issues- Kenny Rogers, DevRel Lead, OpenRouter

SOLUTION

  • Hackmamba plugged into OpenRouter’s existing workflow, with their internal content agent continuing to handle research, briefs, and first drafts.
  • A team of eight writers developed those drafts, verified product claims against OpenRouter’s live model pages and documentation, and checked provider documentation where needed.
  • Writers ran the workflows covered in technical tutorials, including commands, code samples, integrations, and API tests.
  • Each article included a review guide that recorded the claims checked, sources used, corrections made, and questions that still required OpenRouter’s input.
  • Two Boki review agents checked code, API parameters, product claims, sources, structure, and product context before a human reviewer completed the final Hackmamba review.
  • We organized production into monthly batches so writing, internal review, and OpenRouter approval could happen at the same time.
  • OpenRouter continued to choose the topics, while Hackmamba checked search demand, keyword difficulty, and overlap with existing content before drafting.
  • As articles went live, we used query-level search data, CTR, engagement time, and AI-assistant referrals to refine how future briefs were approached.
